Organ Donation
Organ donation saves thousands of lives each year and
provides meaningful options for donor families who have lost loved ones.
In North Carolina there are nearly 3,000 people on the waiting list for organ
transplant. Nationally, there are more than 92,000 people waiting.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center supports organ
donation by working with Carolina Donor Services, a federally-designated,
not-for-profit organ and tissue organization serving people in 79 counties
of North Carolina and Danville, Virginia.
In 2006, NHRMC was awarded the US Department of Health
and Human Services Organ Donation Medal of Honor for its work to promote organ
donation.
