Auxiliary Programs

The New Hanover Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Inc. raises money and supports various programs throughout the network.  The following are just some of the special projects in existence because of the commitment of the Auxilians:

Hospital Hospitality House

The Hospital Hospitality House opened its doors on March 3, 1986 to serve patients and families in medical crisis. HHH has provided more than 100,000 overnight accommodations to people from every state and 18 foreign countries.  With volunteer help, HHH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The "House With A Heart" is a safe and comfortable haven during difficult times, because of the support given by so many volunteers.

Kangaroo Kapers

Kangaroo Kapers, a sibling class for children 3 to 8 years of age, who are about to become a big brother or big sister. Classes are held on the 2nd and 4th Saturday each month at 10 a.m., and require pre-registration.  This FREE program is funded by the NHRMC Auxiliary, Inc.

Patient E-mail

Volunteers help patients receive messages of support from families and friends through the delivery of e-mails that come through the network's website. Volunteers deliver messages Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The service was funded, in part, by the Auxiliary.cal Center.

Fundraisers

NHRMC Auxiliary, Inc. schedules several fundraisers each year. The Auxiliary uses money raised through these fundraisers to purchase needed equipment and to support various endeavors.

The following are examples of recent expenditures: emergency department and surgical waiting room renovations, Coastal Classic Celebrity Golf program, children's toys in the emergency department, teddy bears at Christmas, patient tray favors, impulse machines for Orthopedics, furniture for Joint Camp, scholarships, digital camera for the birthplace, courtesy vans, monitors for pediatric intensive care, a complete TV system for patients having hemodialysis, patient wheelchairs, and much, much more.
